District 59 Education Foundation

Foundation Receives $1000 Donation from District 59 Monarch Award-Winner Gloede

Gloede Monarch Award Winner

The Illinois Association of School Business Officials has recognized Ruth Gloede, District 59 Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, with the Illinois ASBO Monarch Award. The Monarch Award, according to the Illinois ASBO website, is recognition bestowed upon those school business officials who “have demonstrated excellence in service to their school district, communities, and their profession. This award is a celebration of the best school business management has to offer.”  As part of the award, $1000 was presented in Mrs. Gloede’s name to the District 59 Education Foundation. Thank you Mrs. Gloede for your many years of outstanding service to District 59 and for your support of the District 59 Education Foundation.

Foundation Elects New Board Members

The foundation takes great pleasure in announcing the election of three new directors.  Richard Werle, a resident of Arlington Heights, is a retired Chicago Public School teacher. Sharon Lansdown and Ruth Organ are both recent Community Consolidated School District 59 retirees. All come with an intense commitment to quality public education and understand first-hand how grants supporting educational excellence can enrich the classroom experience. Sharon and Ruth are co-chairing the foundation’s gala, The Star Event 2009. All three bring new energy and new ideas to continue the work of the foundation. Welcome, Sharon, Ruth, and Richard!

Foundation funds 39 more programs for the 2008-2009 School year!

The foundation awarded another $25,000 to fund 39 grants at the August 26 Opening Day Ceremony for District 59 staff. The foundation previously awarded $25,000 last spring bringing the total to $50,000 for the year. According to Janice Krinsky, the foundation’s chairperson, “the foundation continues to bring in more money with every year. Since our start in 2004 we have raised over $123,000 to fund 149 grants. This money has enabled us to put resources directly into the hands of the district’s teachers. It is a joy to be able to support the teachers in this way.”
